With proper maintenance you can avoid 99% of all lawn problems. Your lawn should be at least 2½ to 3 inches (6-8 cm) long, longer during a hot, dry summer. Grass clippings are about 90 percent water by weight and are high in protein. Leaving them on the lawn to decompose will return vital nutrients back to the soil.

Your lawn needs 1 to 1-1/2" (3-4cm) of water weekly, which should only be applied early in the morning.

Nematodes

Nematodes

Nature’s Touch™ is a line of Weed Man® products and services, developed primarily for those of our customers looking for organic focused healthy lawn care solutions. Weed Man® is continuously involved in new technology research and development to bring you even better and more effective lawn care treatment, as part of Weed Man®’s healthy lawn programs. Nature’s Touch™ insect programs use nematodes to manage a large range of insect populations from white grubs to sod webworms. There are two different nematodes that we utilize for these services: Steinernema carpocapsae and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora. Both nematodes are native to Canada.

HOW DO NEMATODES WORK?

As mentioned above, nematodes are native to Canada; however, their numbers are not large enough to control harmful lawn insects; therefore, we have to introduce them in large quantities. There are two different Nature’s Touch™ nematode insect controls. Steinernema carpocapsae is for surface insect control and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora is for white grub control. Millions of nematodes are utilized and hundreds of nematodes are needed to enter the insect, feed, release bacteria and reproduce inside the insect. This process will kill the host in 3 to 6 days before the nematodes move on, searching for more insects in 10 to 15 days. This cycle will continue as long as the nematodes are able to find food. Then their numbers will decline so yearly application will be needed in areas that are under constant insect pressure.

Nematodes are UV sensitive, so it is important for all treatments to be made with large volumes of water and if possible to be watered in.

ARE NEMATODES HARMFUL TO MY GARDEN?

There are thousands of different nematodes ranging in size of .3 mm to 8 m and some are problematic to the agricultural industry. Weed Man® uses two nematodes that are predators to the insects that we want to control. They will not move into your garden and destroy your plants.
